Our Ethos: Amalia Loiseau

2021 marks the third year of Ethos as a company. To celebrate how much the team has grown since its beginning, we want to spotlight all of the talented and hardworking individuals who make up our team!

Over the next month, we will discover what each team member enjoys most about working here and what their personal ethos is.

This week’s highlight is Intern, Amalia Loiseau!

Describe your role at Ethos.

As an intern, my role varies from helping out with marketing materials, researching different industries, reviewing cultural artifacts, and more!

What made you want to work at Ethos?

Last summer, I really focused on creating meaningful relationships with DEI professionals to better understand what I wanted to do career-wise. When I started to think about what I wanted from a company, I knew I wanted to work somewhere that would allow me to be my true self. After connecting with one of our facilitators, Khalilah, she told me about Ethos and how powerful the work is. Ethos has given me the opportunity to understand what I want from a job and what I want from myself.  As a young college student, I don’t think I could’ve found a better place for myself other than Ethos.

What has been your favorite aspect of working at Ethos?

My favorite aspect of working at Ethos is the flexibility and understanding of everyone on the team. At Ethos, everyone is willing to lend a helping hand if needed and support you as much as they can. Here, things are done as a team. I am so proud to surround myself with such driven, hardworking people who work every day to make a difference.

What has been your favorite project you have worked on?

While I don’t have one favorite project, I’ve loved seeing how, at Ethos, we take small bits of information from so many different places and create a comprehensive guide to make companies and people better. Every time the team creates a strategic recommendation, I am blown away by the amount of care and detail that goes into helping clients as much as possible.

What do diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging mean to you?

In high school, I started noticing and internalizing the inequities around me. Every year, a student-led organization called Students Organized Against Racism (SOAR) hosted a 2-day conference at Northwestern University to have open conversations about race, privilege, and intersectionality. After my first SOAR conference, I realized that I wanted to be one to guide these conversations and really begin to incorporate activism into my everyday life. DEIB is a core part of my life and who I am. This starts with the people I choose to surround myself with to the work I do every day to make a difference for people who look like me.

What does the word “ethos” mean to you?

The word “ethos” to me is what guides you to make those everyday choices that shape who you are.

What is your personal ethos? How does it show up in your everyday life?

Every day, I make it a point to do the right thing. With every choice that I make and action that I take, I think very critically about how it may or may not impact other people. However, there are levels to it. At its core, it’s important to center your own happiness. I remind myself every day that I was put on this earth for no other reason than to be who I want to be.
